Story

                                                           25 years of Khandel Light

To celebrate (and to raise funds!)  we are running the London Marathon on April 27th.

If the world was a village of just 100 people, 28 would have no access to clean water, 18 would have no toilet of their own, and 5 children would die each year from ensuing diseases.

55 would be living on less £5.50 per day, 8 of whom would have to manage on a daily budget of £1.70.

Over the last 25 years Khandel light has worked with our partner NGO, Nirman Sanstha Khandel, in the desert state of Rajasthan, to address the consequences of climate change-induced drought, poor sanitation and housing, limited educational opportunities, especially for girls, and unemployment.

Some of the ways KL has helped are listed below :

722 water houses,   £130      Drinking water (5000L)  is supplied to 350 water houses every month. £3.50 each fill.

 425 toilets,              £130

Over 1600 students have been able to continue their education.  £30.00 p.a

Over 700 girls attend the Girls' Parliament four times a year where they discuss, debate, and highlight issues to be addressed. £5 a student.

Thank you so very much for your support.

Supporting

Khandel light

Khandel light, a registered charity, was created in June 2000 by Dr Peter Gough, following his first visit to Khandel, Rajasthan. Dr Gough formed a committee of ten volunteer Trustees, drawing together a broad range of skills and expertise. The Trustees sought to improve the quality of life in this desert region, one of the poorest in India and indeed the World.

The community currently supported by Khandel light consists of 26 villages with a total population of around 30,000, covering an area of approximately 300 square kilometers (120 square miles). This is roughly equivalent to the rural section of the North Hertfordshire District, around the towns of Baldock, Hitchin, Letchworth and Royston.
